Housekeeping Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a housekeeping in New York?
No state-issued license is required to work in housekeeping in New York, so the path starts with a high school diploma or equivalent and direct applications to employers. Hotels, hospitals, and residential buildings typically provide on-the-job training covering sanitation standards and cleaning procedures. Completing a short certificate program in hospitality or healthcare environmental services from a community college such as CUNY or SUNY can strengthen an application considerably.
How much do housekeepings make in New York?
Housekeepings in New York earn a median of about $41,950 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $33,810 for the lowest 10% to over $82,540 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire housekeepings in New York?
Employers hiring housekeepings in New York right now include McDonald's, Troon, and Equinox Holdings, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of luxury hotels along Midtown Manhattan and major hospital campuses across all five boroughs means hiring is consistent year-round rather than seasonal.
Which New York cities have the most housekeeping jobs?
New York, Schenectady, and White Plains have the most housekeeping job openings in New York. New York City drives the majority of demand through its massive hotel corridor, medical centers, and high-end residential buildings, while Buffalo and White Plains generate steady openings through regional hospital systems and suburban hotel properties that maintain full housekeeping departments.
Are there remote housekeeping jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Housekeeping is an inherently hands-on, on-site role, so the overwhelming majority of positions require a physical presence. About 0% of housekeeping openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those exceptions are almost exclusively administrative or supervisory roles such as housekeeping manager positions with scheduling or vendor coordination responsibilities.
How can I get hired as a housekeeping in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to hotel brands or hospital systems that hire for room attendant or environmental services associate roles with no prior experience required. Large New York employers such as NYC Health and Hospitals and Marriott-managed Manhattan properties regularly bring on entry-level candidates and train them in-house. Earning a short hospitality or healthcare environmental services certificate through CUNY gives applicants a concrete edge over other no-experience candidates.
Where can I find and apply to housekeeping jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to housekeeping jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings by city or employer type, find roles that fit your experience and availability, and apply directly to the ones that match.
