ICU Registered Nurse Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a icu registered nurse in Indiana?
You become an icu registered nurse in Indiana by first earning an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, then passing the NCLEX-RN examination and obtaining a Registered Nurse license through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. After licensure, most Indiana ICU employers require you to complete a hospital-based critical care orientation or residency program before working independently with ventilated or hemodynamically unstable patients.
How much do ICU registered nurses make in Indiana?
ICU registered nurses in Indiana earn a median of about $83,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,750 for the lowest 10% to over $105,750 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire icu registered nurses in Indiana?
Companies currently hiring icu registered nurses in Indiana include American Traveler, Ascension, and Baptist Health System KY & IN, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana University Health, as the state's largest health system, consistently accounts for a significant share of critical care openings across its network of hospitals throughout the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most icu registered nurse jobs?
Indianapolis, Evansville, and Fort Wayne have the most icu registered nurse openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the largest share of listings because it is home to Indiana's major academic medical centers and the flagship campuses of the state's largest health systems, while Fort Wayne and Evansville add substantial volume through their own regional trauma centers and multi-hospital networks serving northern and southwestern Indiana.
Are there remote icu registered nurse jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of icu registered nurse openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how fundamentally bedside-dependent critical care nursing is. The portion of ICU work that does appear in remote listings tends to involve tele-ICU monitoring roles, where nurses provide remote oversight and consultation to smaller Indiana hospitals that lack around-the-clock intensivist coverage.
How can I get hired as a icu registered nurse in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a nurse residency program designed for new graduates, which Indiana University Health, Ascension St. Vincent, and Franciscan Health all run on a structured cohort schedule. These residencies rotate new nurses through step-down or progressive care units before advancing them into ICU settings. Nurses coming from med-surg, emergency, or cardiovascular step-down roles are also competitive candidates for open critical care positions at Indiana's regional trauma centers.
Where can I find and apply to icu registered nurse jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to icu registered nurse jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Indiana employers. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
