Many employers hire unlicensed candidates and sponsor exam preparation, but having the license before applying gives you a clear competitive edge in this market.

New York's concentration of global carriers, regional brokerages, and specialty lines firms means steady demand well beyond the largest names, particularly in the New York City metro and Long Island corridors.
Which New York cities have the most insurance assistant jobs?
The cities with the most insurance assistant openings in New York are Holbrook and New York. New York City dominates because it is home to the headquarters and major offices of global carriers, reinsurers, and brokerages, while suburban markets like White Plains and Melville reflect the large regional agency and benefits administration sector that serves mid-market commercial clients across the greater metro area.

About 0% of insurance assistant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting a genuine shift among carriers and brokerages post-pandemic. Roles focused on commercial lines service and employee benefits support tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a insurance assistant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly for client services coordinator or insurance associate roles at large New York-area brokerages and regional agencies, many of which hire candidates without prior insurance experience and fund their New York DFS licensing exam. Carriers such as MetLife and Chubb run structured associate programs in their New York operations for entry-level hires. A background in customer service, banking, or administrative support is the most common lateral move, and passing even one licensing exam before applying signals commitment and meaningfully shortens the hiring conversation.
