Python Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a python engineer in New York?
Python engineering has no state-issued license in New York, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skill. Most New York employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though strong candidates with a rigorous coding bootcamp background and a solid portfolio do get hired. Building projects in Python, contributing to open-source work, and targeting entry-level or associate engineer postings at New York's large tech and finance firms is the most direct route.
How much do python engineers make in New York?
Python engineers in New York earn a median of about $166,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,430 for the lowest 10% to over $224,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire python engineers in New York?
Employers hiring python engineers in New York right now include Citi, Capgemini, and Morgan Stanley, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's financial sector and its growing concentration of health-tech and media companies mean python engineers here often work on data-intensive platforms and real-time systems rather than consumer apps.
Which New York cities have the most python engineer jobs?
New York, Blueflame Ai, and Getzville have the most python engineer openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of financial institutions, media companies, and enterprise technology firms, while Buffalo and Albany generate openings through state government technology initiatives, healthcare systems, and regional financial services operations that increasingly rely on Python-based data tooling.
Are there remote python engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 6% of python engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. The positions most likely to be fully remote are those focused on backend API development, data engineering, and machine learning infrastructure, where collaboration happens through code review and asynchronous tools rather than on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a python engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior engineer role at a New York employer that runs structured new-grad or rotational programs, such as large financial institutions, healthcare technology companies, or state agency IT departments. Building a portfolio of Python projects on GitHub, earning a cloud certification, and targeting these programs directly improves your odds. Adjacent roles like data analyst, QA engineer, or SQL developer are also common starting points that move into Python engineering over time.
Where can I find and apply to python engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to python engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to New York employers and locations. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and preferred location or work arrangement, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
