Internal Audit Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an internal auditor in Michigan?
Michigan does not issue a state-specific license for internal auditors, so the primary credential pathway is earning a Certified Internal Auditor designation through the Institute of Internal Auditors or a CPA through the Michigan Board of Accountancy. Most Michigan employers require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance as a baseline. Candidates who pair a relevant degree with a recognized certification and exposure to risk management frameworks are consistently the strongest applicants in this market.
How much do internal audits make in Michigan?
Internal audits in Michigan earn a median of about $78,820 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,620 for the lowest 10% to over $131,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire internal auditors in Michigan?
Employers hiring internal auditors in Michigan right now include Doeren Mayhew CPAs and Advisors, BDO, and Delta Dental, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's concentration of large automotive manufacturers, regional bank holding companies, and major health systems means internal audit roles appear across a broad range of industries throughout the state.
Which Michigan cities have the most internal audit jobs?
Troy, Ann Arbor, and Michigan account for the largest share of internal audit openings in Michigan. Detroit and its suburbs drive the bulk of demand given the headquarters density of automotive, financial services, and healthcare organizations, while Grand Rapids reflects the growing presence of regional banks, health systems like Corewell Health, and manufacturing headquarters in West Michigan.
Are there remote internal audit jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than many finance roles, since internal audit work is heavily documentation-driven and report-based. About 100% of internal audit openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the analytical and review work translates to distributed teams. IT audit and SOX compliance testing tend to be the sub-areas most frequently offered on a remote or hybrid basis.
How can I get hired as an internal auditor in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to staff auditor or audit associate roles at Michigan's large healthcare systems, regional banks, or automotive suppliers, which regularly hire candidates from accounting or finance programs. University of Michigan, Michigan State, and Wayne State graduates often land first roles through campus recruiting pipelines that feed directly into these employers. Pursuing even a partial CIA exam section or an accounting internship at a Michigan firm gives early-career candidates a measurable edge over those without any credential progress.
Where can I find and apply to internal audit jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to internal audit jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each listing without any intermediary steps.
