Tips for Your Interventional Radiologist Job Search
Tailor your CV to procedure volume
Hiring committees for interventional radiologist roles weigh case logs heavily. List your annual procedure volume by category, such as IR oncology, venous access, and peripheral vascular, so readers can assess your clinical depth without requesting additional materials.
Highlight your dual-board status clearly
If you hold both diagnostic radiology board certification and a Certificate of Added Qualification in interventional radiology, list both prominently near the top of your CV. Many postings filter for this combination before reviewing the rest of your application.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists interventional radiologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target programs by practice model
Academic groups, private practices, and hospital-employed models differ sharply in call burden, partnership timelines, and autonomy. Filter your search by practice setting first, then refine by geography, so you're not prepping for interviews at practices that don't match your priorities.
Prepare to discuss quality metrics in interviews
IR hiring panels increasingly ask about complication rates, door-to-procedure times, and quality improvement contributions. Review your department's outcome data before interviewing and be ready to speak to specific cases where your protocol changes improved patient results.
Negotiate call structure before accepting an offer
Call obligations vary more in IR than in most specialties, and they rarely appear in job postings. Ask directly about on-call frequency, overnight IR coverage expectations, and how emergent cases are triaged before you reach the offer stage.
Interventional Radiologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most interventional radiologists?
The companies hiring the most interventional radiologists right now include Medical University of South Carolina, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, and OhioHealth, with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Ohio, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Academic medical centers and large regional hospital networks tend to post the highest volume of roles throughout the year.
How many interventional radiologist jobs are remote?
About 1% of interventional radiologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on procedural nature of most IR roles. The sub-areas most compatible with remote work include teleradiology reads, IR quality consulting, and medical directorship positions that don't require daily procedure coverage.
How do you become an interventional radiologist?
You complete four years of medical school, a one-year internship or preliminary year, a four-year diagnostic radiology residency, and then a one- or two-year interventional radiology fellowship or an integrated six-year IR residency. After training, you sit for board certification in diagnostic radiology and can pursue a Certificate of Added Qualification in interventional radiology to demonstrate subspecialty expertise to employers.
Can you get hired as an interventional radiologist without fellowship experience?
Most interventional radiologist positions require completion of a dedicated IR fellowship or an integrated IR residency, so hiring without formal IR training is rare for attending roles. Candidates who completed older diagnostic radiology residencies with strong IR rotations may qualify for some community hospital positions if they can document substantial procedure volume and pursue additional credentialing after hire.
What does the interventional radiologist interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a phone or video screening with the department chief or recruitment coordinator, followed by an on-site visit that includes tours of the IR suite, meetings with current partners or employed physicians, and a presentation of your clinical experience or research. Final stages involve a credentialing review, reference checks, and contract negotiation, which often takes several weeks given the complexity of IR compensation structures and call arrangements.
Where can I find and apply to interventional radiologist jobs?
You can find and apply to interventional radiologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from hospital systems, radiology groups, and academic centers across the United States. Find roles that match your training, practice setting preference, and location, then apply directly to each listing from the same page.
