Inventory Specialist Jobs in Michigan

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate physical and digital inventory records while ensuring all cannabis and cannabis-related inventory is properly tracked and reported in accordance with Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) requirements and METRC regulations.

This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and hands-on experience using Michigan METRC. The Inventory Specialist will work closely with Cultivation, Processing, Packaging, Sales, and Compliance teams to ensure inventory movements, production activities, waste, transfers, packages, harvests, and adjustments are accurately recorded.

The ideal candidate has previous experience working in a regulated cannabis facility and understands the importance of accurate METRC reporting and maintaining compliance with Michigan regulations.

Key Responsibilities METRC & Regulatory Compliance

• Maintain accurate and timely METRC records for all cannabis inventory and applicable plant material.
• Enter and maintain harvest, package, transfer, waste, adjustment, and inventory information in METRC.
• Create, update, and close METRC packages as required.
• Track cannabis inventory from cultivation through processing, packaging, storage, and final disposition.
• Ensure all METRC entries accurately reflect physical inventory.
• Perform regular METRC audits and identify discrepancies between physical inventory and system records.
• Research and resolve inventory discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate records in accordance with Michigan CRA regulations and company SOPs.
• Monitor compliance deadlines and ensure required METRC activities are completed within regulatory timeframes.
• Assist with preparation for CRA inspections and internal compliance audits.
• Maintain organized documentation supporting METRC transactions and inventory adjustments.

Inventory Management

• Conduct routine physical inventory counts of cannabis, finished products, work-in-process material, and applicable supplies.
• Track inventory movement between rooms, departments, storage areas, and licensed facilities.
• Verify package labels, package weights, quantities, and METRC information.
• Monitor inventory levels and identify potential discrepancies or losses.
• Ensure inventory is properly organized, labeled, and stored.
• Maintain accurate records of cannabis waste, destruction, and disposal.

Cultivation & Production Support

• Work closely with Cultivation to track plant counts, harvests, batches, and production activity.
• Assist with creating and maintaining harvest and package records.
• Verify weights and quantities at key points throughout the production process.
• Track material movement from harvest through drying, trimming, processing, and packaging.
• Ensure production activities are accurately reflected in METRC.
• Assist production teams with understanding inventory tracking requirements and proper documentation.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate inventory logs, spreadsheets, and compliance records.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory reports as requested.
• Track inventory adjustments and maintain supporting documentation.
• Identify trends or recurring discrepancies and communicate them to management.
• Assist with audits, investigations, and regulatory reporting.
• Maintain confidentiality of company, inventory, production, and compliance information.

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience working with Michigan METRC is required.
• Previous experience in a regulated cannabis facility strongly preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in inventory control, compliance, cannabis operations, or a related field preferred.
• Strong understanding of cannabis inventory tracking and regulatory compliance.
• Strong computer and data-entry skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to accurately enter and verify large amounts of data.
• Ability to identify discrepancies and troubleshoot inventory issues.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive business information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience conducting cannabis inventory audits.
• Experience with cannabis cultivation, processing, packaging, or distribution.
• Experience managing METRC packages, transfers, harvests, waste, and adjustments.
• Experience preparing for regulatory inspections.
• Familiarity with cannabis seed-to-sale tracking systems.
• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, sorting, filtering, and data reconciliation.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to regularly lift and move inventory and supplies up to approximately 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in cultivation, production, storage, and warehouse environments.
• Ability to work around cannabis plants, finished cannabis products, and production equipment.
• Ability to wear required PPE when entering designated areas.

The Inventory Specialist is expected to:

Success in This Role

Success in this position means maintaining accurate, compliant, and audit-ready inventory records while ensuring that the company's physical cannabis inventory and METRC inventory remain properly reconciled at all times.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
