Investment Banking Analyst Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an investment banking analyst in Illinois?
Most Illinois investment banking analyst roles require a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field, followed by obtaining FINRA Series 79 and Series 63 licenses, which are required for professionals engaged in investment banking activities and registered through FINRA rather than a state licensing board. Chicago-area banks and boutiques typically sponsor new analysts for these exams during onboarding. A strong academic record and at least one finance internship significantly improve hiring prospects in Illinois.
How much do investment banking analysts make in Illinois?
Investment banking analysts in Illinois earn a median of about $101,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,700 for the lowest 10% to over $166,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire investment banking analysts in Illinois?
Employers hiring investment banking analysts in Illinois right now include JPMorganChase, D.A. Davidson Companies, and Baird, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's concentration of middle-market boutiques, regional broker-dealers, and global bank branches makes Illinois one of the more active states outside New York for investment banking analyst openings.
Which Illinois cities have the most investment banking analyst jobs?
Chicago have the most investment banking analyst openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the vast majority of activity, as it hosts the Illinois headquarters of major banks, boutique advisory firms, and the Chicago Board Options Exchange ecosystem, while suburban centers like Naperville and Schaumburg attract openings tied to large corporate treasury and financial services operations headquartered outside the downtown loop.
Are there remote investment banking analyst jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're uncommon. Investment banking analyst work is heavily client-facing and deal-driven, which keeps most roles tied to an office in Chicago or another banking hub. About 62% of investment banking analyst openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to be in research, financial modeling support, or back-office advisory functions rather than front-line deal execution.
How can I get hired as an investment banking analyst in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a structured summer internship at a Chicago-based firm, which frequently converts to a full-time analyst offer. William Blair, Baird, and Houlihan Lokey all run formal analyst programs in Chicago that recruit undergraduates without prior full-time experience. Candidates coming from adjacent roles in corporate banking, accounting, or financial planning and analysis at Illinois-based companies frequently lateral into analyst positions. Completing your Series 79 exam before applying gives an immediate edge over candidates who need sponsorship to sit for it.
Where can I find and apply to investment banking analyst jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to investment banking analyst jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across Chicago and other parts of the state. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
