Investment Banking Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an investment banking analyst in New York?
Most investment banking analysts in New York enter through structured analyst programs at large banks or boutique advisory firms after completing a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field. The role itself does not require a New York state license to start, but FINRA registrations, specifically the Series 79 and Series 63, are typically required within a few months of hire and are sponsored by the employing firm. Recruiting at major banks concentrates heavily on target universities and on-campus programs, though boutiques and middle-market firms hire on a rolling basis.
How much do investment banking analysts make in New York?
Investment banking analysts in New York earn a median of about $127,930 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,540 for the lowest 10% to over $225,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire investment banking analysts in New York?
Employers hiring investment banking analysts in New York right now include JPMorganChase, Fitch Ratings, and Morgan Stanley, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global bank headquarters, elite boutiques like Evercore and Lazard, and large middle-market firms means the analyst hiring pool here is deeper and more varied than in any other U.S. city.
Which New York cities have the most investment banking analyst jobs?
New York, New York, and New York City have the most investment banking analyst openings in New York. Manhattan drives the overwhelming majority of postings given its concentration of global bank headquarters, boutique advisory firms, and private equity shops, while Jersey City accounts for a significant share because several major banks house back-office and trading operations there, and other metro-area locations appear when regional or middle-market firms post roles outside the core financial district.
Are there remote investment banking analyst jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are rare. Investment banking analyst work is heavily client-facing, deal-driven, and team-dependent, which keeps most roles in-office by default. About 21% of investment banking analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be at fintech-adjacent firms or in less client-intensive coverage groups rather than at traditional bulge-bracket or elite boutique banks.
How can I get hired as an investment banking analyst in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a summer analyst internship that converts to a full-time offer, which most large New York banks structure as the primary pipeline for their analyst classes. Firms like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Bank of America run formal new-analyst programs aimed at recent graduates, and boutiques such as Houlihan Lokey and Jefferies hire analysts on a rolling basis throughout the year. Candidates without direct banking experience can strengthen their candidacy by coming from adjacent roles in equity research, corporate finance, or Big Four transaction advisory, and by passing the Series 79 before they are sponsored.
Where can I find and apply to investment banking analyst jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to investment banking analyst jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across New York's banks, boutiques, and advisory firms. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and target group, and apply directly to each listing without needing to create a profile or sign up first.
