IT Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it manager in Utah?
Most it manager roles in Utah require a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field, followed by several years of hands-on technical work and some supervisory experience. Utah does not issue a state-specific license for it managers, but employers here strongly favor candidates who hold recognized certifications such as CompTIA Security+, ITIL Foundation, or the Project Management Professional credential. Starting in a systems administrator, network engineer, or IT support lead role at one of Utah's technology companies or healthcare systems is the most common path into management.
How much do IT managers make in Utah?
IT managers in Utah earn a median of about $163,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $107,580 for the lowest 10% to over $237,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it managers in Utah?
Utah it manager roles are posted by Swire Coca-Cola, Otoe Missouria, and Utah First Credit Union and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's mix of enterprise technology companies headquartered along the Wasatch Front, large healthcare systems, and financial services firms means openings appear across a broad range of industries and company sizes.
Which Utah cities have the most it manager jobs?
Salt Lake City, Draper, and Ogden account for the largest share of it manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City anchors demand through its concentration of financial services, healthcare, and government employers, while Provo and Lehi sit at the center of Utah's technology corridor, where software companies and cloud-focused firms have expanded their enterprise IT teams significantly over the past decade.
Are there remote it manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than many comparable management roles, since it managers increasingly oversee distributed teams and cloud-based systems that do not require a daily on-site presence. About 14% of it manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader technology industry norms across the state. Roles focused on cloud operations, IT governance, and vendor management tend to offer the most location flexibility, while positions involving data center oversight or hands-on infrastructure work are more likely to require on-site availability.
How can I get hired as a it manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is securing a senior individual-contributor role first, such as systems administrator, network analyst, or IT support team lead, at a Utah employer large enough to promote from within. Intermountain Health, the State of Utah's Department of Technology Services, and major Lehi-based software companies regularly hire for these stepping-stone roles and often fill management openings from their own technical staff. Earning an ITIL Foundation or CompTIA Project+ certification while in a senior technical position signals readiness for management and gives candidates a concrete edge when applying internally or laterally.
Where can I find and apply to it manager jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to it manager jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Utah employers. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and the type of environment you want to work in, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
