Hourly Pay Range:
$24.86 - $37.29 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
Position Highlights:
- Position: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
- Location: 3060 Salt Creek Ln Arlington Heights, IL
- Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays
What you will do:
- Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures prepares, collects, logs and labels specimens for testing from Salt Creek patients
- Performs pre/post-analytical processing/ordering of specimens arriving in the lab.
- Responsible for performing moderate and high-complexity testing.
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them
- Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, as required.
- Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks.
- Notifies nursing unit and/or physician of critical lab values.
- Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.
- Meets current documentation standards and policies.
- Interacts professionally with the Laboratory Manager, President and medical staff.
- Consults with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Follows standard precautions at all times.
- Manages and operates laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
- Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies.
- Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CAP, JCAHO, state and other regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
What you will need:
- Education: Preferred: graduated from MLT (Associates) program. Required.
- Certification: MLT certification
- Experience: Preferred: Previous relevant clinical experience, least 2 years previous laboratory experience. Must know
- Must have 2 years phlebotomy experience, blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data
- Unique or Preferred Skills: Strong foundation in medical laboratory technician science. Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to various Laboratory areas with assistance under supervision. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel to assist with taking corrective action. Good communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
