Most firms expect candidates to be admitted or in the process of seeking admission before beginning associate-level work.

Which companies hire legal associates in Washington?

Washington's technology sector, combined with a robust government contracting base and active real estate market, means in-house legal teams at major corporations are among the most consistent sources of associate-level openings alongside traditional law firms.
Which Washington cities have the most legal associate jobs?
Seattle, Bellevue, and Vancouver have the most legal associate openings in Washington. Seattle dominates because of its concentration of technology companies, national law firm offices, and financial services headquarters, while Bellevue's growth as a corporate hub for companies like Amazon and Microsoft has made it a strong secondary market, and Tacoma's government agencies and regional courts sustain steady demand for associates.
Are there remote legal associate jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since legal associate work often requires in-person court appearances, client meetings, and document handling. About 50% of legal associate openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the remote options concentrated in document review, legal research, and transactional work rather than litigation-heavy roles.
How can I get hired as a legal associate in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a summer associate or law clerk position before graduation, as Washington's larger firms including those in Seattle's downtown legal corridor run structured programs specifically for law students and new graduates. Lateral entry from paralegal, compliance analyst, or contract specialist roles at Washington technology companies or state agencies is another common pathway. Sitting for the Washington bar exam promptly and completing relevant coursework in IP or corporate law gives candidates a measurable edge with in-house teams.
