Maintenance Engineer

About the Position

Fairway Inn & Suites is seeking a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Engineer to take ownership of the maintenance, safety, functionality and overall condition of our property.

Our property includes a 100-room hotel, Grey Fox Bar & Restaurant, convention and banquet facilities, swimming pool and hot tub, public spaces, mechanical areas and exterior grounds.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in keeping a property in excellent condition, can troubleshoot problems independently and believes in fixing small issues before they become expensive ones.

This is a hands-on position—not a desk-management role.

Responsibilities

• Take day-to-day ownership of maintenance across the hotel, Grey Fox Bar & Restaurant and convention center
• Perform preventative maintenance throughout guest rooms, public areas, restaurant, event spaces and mechanical areas
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and staff
• Troubleshoot and complete routine plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliance, carpentry and general building repairs
• Perform painting, drywall repair, caulking, patching and other cosmetic repairs
• Maintain doors, locks, fixtures, furniture and hotel equipment
• Identify recurring problems and recommend long-term solutions
• Maintain an organized preventative-maintenance program and service records
• Monitor property equipment and communicate upcoming repair or replacement needs before they become emergencies
• Coordinate specialized repairs with outside HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life-safety and other contractors
• Maintain an appropriate inventory of tools, parts and maintenance supplies
• Assist with fire, life-safety and other required inspections
• Maintain safe, clean and organized mechanical and maintenance areas
• Work closely with the General Manager and other department leaders to keep the entire property operating smoothly

Pool & Hot Tub Responsibilities

The Maintenance Engineer will also have responsibility for the safe operation and maintenance of the property's swimming pool and hot tub, including:

• Daily inspections and required water testing
• Water chemistry and chemical levels
• Pumps, filters, heaters and circulation systems
• Cleaning and routine maintenance
• Required testing and maintenance documentation
• Identifying and addressing safety or water-quality concerns
• Coordinating specialized repairs when necessary

Current recognized pool-operator certification is preferred. Candidates without current certification may be considered if willing and able to obtain the required certification within an agreed-upon period after hire.

• Previous hotel, commercial building, facilities or general maintenance experience
• Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC and general building maintenance
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
• Preventative-maintenance mindset
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple needs
• Dependable attendance and strong work habits
• Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools
• Professional communication with guests, employees, vendors and management
• Willingness to respond when an urgent property issue requires attention

Hotel/resort maintenance, commercial pool, HVAC, plumbing, electrical or related trade experience is especially valuable, but we are most interested in finding a capable person who takes ownership of the property and gets things done.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and working in mechanical areas. Candidates must be able to safely lift and carry tools, equipment and supplies weighing approximately 50 pounds when necessary and work both indoors and outdoors.
