Maintenance Supervisor Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a maintenance supervisor in New York?
Most maintenance supervisors in New York advance from journeyman-level trades work after several years of hands-on experience. Depending on the setting, a Certificate of Fitness from the New York City Fire Department or a Stationary Engineer license from the New York State Department of Labor may be required. Employers in large residential buildings often expect candidates to hold or be eligible for a New York City building superintendent credential. An associate degree in facilities management or a related trade strengthens applications.
Which companies hire maintenance supervisors in New York?
Employers hiring maintenance supervisors in New York right now include Hertz, Hornblower, and American Airlines, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense mix of large institutional campuses, multi-family housing portfolios, and commercial high-rise buildings keeps demand for qualified supervisors steady across both private and public sector employers throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most maintenance supervisor jobs?
The cities with the most maintenance supervisor openings in New York are Brooklyn, New York, and Auburn. New York City dominates because of its enormous stock of commercial towers, hospital systems, and public housing complexes, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady openings through state government facilities, university campuses, and regional healthcare networks that require dedicated maintenance leadership.
Are there remote maintenance supervisor jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Maintenance supervisor work is fundamentally hands-on and site-based, so most roles require a physical presence to oversee staff, inspect equipment, and respond to building issues. About 0% of maintenance supervisor openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative coordination, vendor management, or portfolio oversight rather than direct facilities work.
How can I get hired as a maintenance supervisor in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting as a maintenance technician or building porter with a large property management company or institutional employer in New York, then moving into a lead or working supervisor role. Organizations such as the New York City Housing Authority and major healthcare networks like Northwell Health run structured facilities apprenticeship and technician development programs. Obtaining a Certificate of Fitness from the FDNY or completing a trade certification through a New York City union apprenticeship program gives early-career candidates a clear competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to maintenance supervisor jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to maintenance supervisor jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to see roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
