Medical Assistant Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical assistant in Colorado?
Colorado does not require a state license to work as a medical assistant, but most employers require or strongly prefer a nationally recognized credential such as the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from American Medical Technologists. Candidates typically complete an accredited certificate or associate degree program, then sit for the credentialing exam. Many Colorado community colleges offer qualifying programs.
How much do medical assistants make in Colorado?
Medical assistants in Colorado earn a median of about $48,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,130 for the lowest 10% to over $59,760 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire medical assistants in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring medical assistants in Colorado include Denver Health, UCHealth, and CommonSpirit Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's dense network of UCHealth and Intermountain clinics across the Front Range means openings are posted regularly throughout the year, not just during seasonal hiring cycles.
Which Colorado cities have the most medical assistant jobs?
Denver, Colorado Springs, and Aurora have the most medical assistant openings in Colorado. Denver and Aurora dominate because of the concentration of large health systems and multi-specialty outpatient campuses there, while Colorado Springs supports a substantial volume driven by military-connected healthcare facilities and regional hospital groups serving the Pikes Peak corridor.
Are there remote medical assistant jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're rare. Medical assisting is primarily a hands-on clinical role that requires in-person patient contact, so fully remote positions make up a small share of the market. About 7% of medical assistant openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be in telephonic triage, prior authorization support, or care coordination functions that don't require direct patient procedures.
How can I get hired as a medical assistant in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is completing an accredited medical assistant program at a Colorado community college such as Arapahoe Community College or Pikes Peak State College, which often include externship rotations at partnering clinics. Larger systems like UCHealth and Centura Health run new-graduate onboarding tracks for externship completers. Candidates coming from patient care technician, pharmacy technician, or dental assistant roles often move into medical assistant positions, and earning a CMA or RMA credential before applying gives an edge even without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to medical assistant jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to medical assistant jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your credentials and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
