Medical Social Worker Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical social worker in South Carolina?
You must earn a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and then obtain licensure through the South Carolina Board of Social Work Examiners. The board issues the Licensed Master Social Worker credential, which requires passing the ASWB Clinical exam. Most hospital and health system employers in South Carolina require the LMSW at minimum, and clinical positions often require the Licensed Independent Social Worker in Clinical Practice designation.
Which companies hire medical social workers in South Carolina?
Employers hiring medical social workers in South Carolina right now include BAYADA Home Health Care, PruittHealth, and Lexington Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. South Carolina's large integrated health systems and growing network of post-acute and behavioral health facilities make it one of the more active states for consistent openings in this role.
Which South Carolina cities have the most medical social worker jobs?
Greenwood, Greenville, and Myrtle Beach lead South Carolina for medical social worker openings. Columbia anchors the market as the state capital and home to major systems like Prisma Health and the VA, while Charleston's concentration of MUSC Health facilities and Greenville's growing Prisma and Bon Secours campuses drive strong demand in those metros.
Are there remote medical social worker jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they are rare. About 0% of medical social worker openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on, in-person nature of most hospital and clinical settings. The roles most likely to offer remote arrangements are telephonic case management and utilization review positions that do not require direct bedside presence.
How can I get hired as a medical social worker in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is pursuing a graduate field placement at a South Carolina hospital or hospice during your MSW program, then converting that relationship into a first role. Prisma Health and MUSC Health both take MSW interns and have onboarded new graduates into entry-level care coordination and discharge planning roles. Candidates who hold their LMSW and have completed a clinical practicum in a medical setting will compete well for associate social worker and patient navigator positions, which are common stepping-stone titles across South Carolina health systems.
