How do you become a mental health professional in New York?
Becoming a licensed mental health professional in New York requires a master's degree in a clinical field such as counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy, followed by supervised post-graduate hours and a licensing exam administered through the New York State Education Department. The specific credential depends on your field: social workers pursue LCSW licensure, counselors pursue LMHC, and therapists may pursue LMFT. The New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions oversees all applications and requirements.
Which companies hire mental health professionals in New York?

New York's large integrated health systems, state-funded community mental health clinics, and nonprofit behavioral health organizations maintain particularly consistent hiring volume throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most mental health jobs?

New York City drives the majority of listings given its dense population, large hospital systems, and extensive network of community mental health centers, while Buffalo and Albany reflect strong regional demand anchored by academic medical centers, state agencies, and county behavioral health programs.
