Middle School Teacher Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a middle school teacher in Texas?
To become a middle school teacher in Texas, you must hold a teaching certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency. Most candidates complete a state-approved educator preparation program, then pass the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards tests for their content area and pedagogy. Texas also offers an alternative certification pathway for career changers who already hold a bachelor's degree, letting them teach while completing preparation requirements through an approved provider.
How much do middle school teachers make in Texas?
Middle school teachers in Texas earn a median of about $63,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,410 for the lowest 10% to over $75,750 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire middle school teachers in Texas?
Employers hiring middle school teachers in Texas right now include Austin Independent School District, Spring Independent School District, and Ector County Independent School District, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large urban and fast-growing suburban districts, along with its expanding charter school networks, keep a steady pipeline of openings across grade levels and subject areas.
Which Texas cities have the most middle school teacher jobs?
Austin, Odessa, and Spring have the most middle school teacher openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas drive the highest volumes given their massive independent school districts and dense charter networks, while Austin's rapid population growth has pushed its district hiring sharply upward, creating openings across a wide range of subjects and experience levels.
Are there remote middle school teacher jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of middle school teacher openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how fundamentally classroom-based this role is. The remote positions that do exist tend to be in virtual charter schools or specialized online curriculum roles, rather than traditional district teaching assignments.
How can I get hired as a middle school teacher in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is Texas's alternative certification route, which lets candidates with a bachelor's degree begin teaching while completing preparation through a state-approved program. Large districts such as Houston ISD, Dallas ISD, and San Antonio ISD run residency and grow-your-own programs that place candidates in classrooms with mentorship before full certification. Instructional aide and paraprofessional roles within those districts are also common stepping stones, and completing the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards early signals readiness to hiring committees.
Where can I find and apply to middle school teacher jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to middle school teacher jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Texas districts, charter networks, and private schools. Search the listings to find roles that match your subject area, grade level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
