Tips for Your National Account Director Job Search
Quantify revenue in your resume
National account director resumes live or die by numbers. Replace vague phrases like 'grew accounts' with the actual book of business size, retention rate improvement, or contract value you closed. Hiring managers expect revenue ownership to be explicit.
Target openings by named vertical
Filter job listings by the industry you've sold into, not just the title. A national account director background in CPG rarely maps cleanly to enterprise SaaS, so focusing on your vertical gets your application in front of the right hiring team faster.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists national account director openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prove cross-functional influence on your resume
National account directors routinely coordinate between sales, supply chain, finance, and marketing. Show a concrete example where you led a cross-functional initiative that retained or expanded a major account, not just that you 'collaborated' with internal teams.
Prepare a structured account planning story
Interviewers commonly ask you to walk through how you plan and prioritize a national account portfolio. Practice a clear narrative covering account tiering, growth plays, at-risk signals, and how you allocate your time across a multi-account book.
Negotiate on total comp, not base alone
National account director offers typically include variable compensation tied to quota attainment, account retention, or margin targets. Before accepting, confirm how quota is set, how often it resets, and whether accelerators apply above it.
National Account Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most national account directors?
The companies hiring the most national account directors right now include Neurocrine Biosciences, ABM Industries, and Eurofins, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and North Carolina, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is strongest in CPG, medical devices, and enterprise technology.
How many national account director jobs are remote?
About 47% of national account director openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though many roles still require periodic travel to major retail headquarters or distributor sites. Fully remote positions are most common in technology and SaaS verticals, where accounts are managed digitally rather than through in-person buyer visits.
How do you become a national account director?
Most national account directors move up from regional or key account manager roles after building a strong record of growing and retaining complex accounts. You typically need several years of managing large buyers, demonstrated ability to influence internally across sales and operations, and experience closing or renewing high-value contracts. Industry knowledge in your target vertical accelerates the path considerably.
Can you get a national account director role without direct experience?
Getting hired as a national account director without prior experience at that level is difficult, but not impossible if you come from strategic account management or a senior territory role. Employers weigh the size of accounts you've managed, your ability to navigate complex buying organizations, and proof you've driven measurable revenue outcomes without heavy managerial oversight.
What does the national account director interview process look like?
The process typically runs three to five rounds and includes a phone screen with a recruiter, a competency interview with a sales leader, and at least one case-style exercise where you present an account plan or a growth strategy for a named account. Final rounds often involve meeting cross-functional stakeholders in marketing, supply chain, or finance who would work alongside you.
Where can I find and apply to national account director jobs?
You can find and apply to national account director jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your industry background and account experience, then apply directly to each one that fits.
