Network Support Technician Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network support technician in California?
California does not require a state-issued license to work as a network support technician, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most employers expect at minimum an associate degree in information technology, computer networking, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience. CompTIA Network+ is the most widely recognized entry-level credential in California hiring. Many community colleges in the California Community Colleges system offer networking programs that align directly with these certifications.
How much do network support technicians make in California?
Network support technicians in California earn a median of about $79,190 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,090 for the lowest 10% to over $148,940 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire network support technicians in California?
Employers hiring network support technicians in California right now include Meta, Amazon, and Arista Networks, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of enterprise tech headquarters, large healthcare networks, and public university campuses means openings are distributed across corporate IT, clinical IT, and higher-education support teams statewide.
Which California cities have the most network support technician jobs?
Santa Clara, Menlo Park, and San Francisco have the most network support technician openings in California. The Bay Area's concentration of enterprise technology headquarters and data centers drives the largest share of postings, while Los Angeles and San Diego generate steady demand through healthcare systems, defense contractors, and large municipal IT departments that maintain extensive on-site network infrastructure.
Are there remote network support technician jobs in California?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based IT roles because network support often requires hands-on work with physical hardware, cabling, and on-site troubleshooting. About 14% of network support technician openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The tasks most likely to be performed remotely are Tier 1 and Tier 2 software-level troubleshooting, monitoring, and configuration work that does not require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a network support technician in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a help-desk or IT support specialist role, which large California employers such as UC Health, Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Unified School District, and state agency IT departments regularly fill with candidates who hold a CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification and an associate degree. Lateral moves from desktop support or field technician roles are common. Building a home lab, documenting your configurations, and earning a vendor-neutral certification before applying gives candidates without formal work history a concrete edge in California interviews.
Where can I find and apply to network support technician jobs in California?
