Nursing Jobs in Milwaukee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a nursing job in Milwaukee?
Milwaukee's largest nursing employers are its major health systems, academic medical centers, and the city's growing network of federally qualified health centers serving neighborhoods like Clarke Square and Harambee. Candidates with acute care, behavioral health, or community health experience stand out most in this market. Applying directly to hospital systems and county health programs gives you access to the broadest range of openings in the city.
Which companies hire nursings in Milwaukee?
Companies currently hiring nursings in Milwaukee include Froedtert & MCW, Advocate Aurora Health, and Ascension, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Milwaukee's hiring landscape leans heavily toward integrated health systems, rehabilitation networks, and county-operated facilities serving both urban neighborhoods and surrounding suburban communities.
Are there remote nursing jobs in Milwaukee?
Yes, though remote roles are limited by the hands-on nature of most nursing work. About 0% of nursing openings tied to Milwaukee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broader industry patterns. In Milwaukee, the roles most likely to offer remote flexibility are utilization review, case management, telehealth triage, and insurance authorization positions rather than direct patient care.
How can I get a nursing job in Milwaukee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Milwaukee is through a new graduate residency or nurse extern program at one of the city's larger hospital systems, which routinely recruit from local nursing schools in and around Milwaukee County. Entry-level openings in long-term care, rehabilitation, and assisted living facilities on the city's north and south sides also offer structured on-the-job training. Candidates who completed clinical rotations at Milwaukee facilities have a clear local advantage when applying.
