Nursing Officer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nursing officer in New York?
You must hold an active Registered Nurse license through the New York State Education Department, which requires completing an approved nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN examination. Most nursing officer roles in New York additionally require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and several years of clinical experience. Many positions in large New York hospital systems also expect a specialty certification such as CCRN or CEN depending on the unit.
How much do nursing officers make in New York?
Nursing officers in New York earn a median of about $109,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,760 for the lowest 10% to over $157,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nursing officers in New York?
Employers hiring nursing officers in New York right now include New York State Office of Mental Health, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, and Albany Medical Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large integrated health systems and the city's public hospital network sustain particularly high and consistent demand for nursing officers at multiple seniority levels throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most nursing officer jobs?
New York, Binghamton, and Brooklyn have the most nursing officer openings in New York. New York City anchors demand through its concentration of major academic medical centers and the NYC Health + Hospitals public system, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady openings through regional health systems and state government health agencies serving western and capital-region populations.
Are there remote nursing officer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Nursing officer work is fundamentally hands-on and unit-based, which limits remote options significantly. About 6% of nursing officer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to be concentrated in utilization review, care coordination, and population health management functions that do not require physical presence on a unit.
How can I get hired as a nursing officer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a new-graduate residency program, which Northwell Health, NYC Health + Hospitals, and NewYork-Presbyterian all run for RNs with limited post-licensure experience. Starting in a staff RN role in a med-surg or telemetry unit and moving into a charge or relief charge position builds the supervisory profile nursing officer roles require. Completing your BSN and obtaining a specialty certification early strengthens your candidacy with New York employers who require both.
Where can I find and apply to nursing officer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to nursing officer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to the employer through the listing.
