- Maintain a professional demeanor, in writing and in person, with support staff, business colleagues, senior management, and outside counsel.
- An ability to adopt technology solutions and seek efficiencies in managing work.
- High ethical standards.

Education: An undergraduate degree, and strong academic performance at a J.D. from a highly-rated law school.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship as an Advertising Sales Manager
Target employers with H-1B sponsorship history
Ad-tech companies, major media groups, and national agencies file H-1B visa petitions regularly. Focus your search on organizations that have sponsored roles in sales management before, not just those open to discussing it.
Lead with revenue results, not just activity
Sponsoring employers want proof of return on investment. Quantify your pipeline value, quota attainment, and client retention rates. Concrete numbers reduce perceived risk and make the sponsorship conversation easier to initiate.
Time your job search around OPT deadlines
STEM OPT extensions give you up to 36 months total. If your degree qualifies, apply early so employers have enough runway to complete H-1B sponsorship before your authorization expires. Cutting it close limits your options.
Clarify your specialty occupation case upfront
Advertising Sales Manager qualifies as a specialty occupation when the role requires a degree in marketing, communications, or business. Be ready to explain how your academic background directly applies to the position during interviews.
Focus on mid-size agencies and ad-tech platforms
Large holding companies often have rigid HR processes. Mid-size agencies and growing ad-tech firms frequently sponsor OPT students because they need specialized talent and move faster on hiring decisions than enterprise-level organizations.
Address sponsorship early but professionally
Bring up your OPT status after demonstrating clear value, not in the first message. Frame it as a straightforward process for qualified candidates, and offer to connect them with immigration counsel resources if they have questions.
Advertising Sales Manager OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Advertising Sales Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like marketing, communications, or business administration. The key is that the degree must be a standard requirement for entry into the role, not just preferred. Positions requiring any degree regardless of field can face challenges during USCIS adjudication, so the job description wording matters significantly.
Can I work as an Advertising Sales Manager on OPT without employer sponsorship?
Yes. During your OPT period, you can work without your employer filing any petition. Your F-1 OPT EAD card authorizes employment directly. Sponsorship only becomes relevant when OPT expires and you need a visa like the H-1B to maintain work authorization. This means your first priority is landing the role and performing well.
Where can I find Advertising Sales Manager jobs that are open to OPT students?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT students and filters for employers who have sponsored international talent before. Rather than applying broadly and encountering sponsorship barriers after multiple interview rounds, you can identify OPT-friendly employers in advertising and media from the start, which saves significant time during a period when your authorization timeline matters.
Does a business or marketing degree from a foreign university qualify me for H-1B sponsorship in this role?
Generally yes, provided USCIS deems your degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree in a relevant field. A three-year bachelor's from certain countries may require evaluation, and your employer's immigration attorney will typically obtain a credential evaluation from a recognized organization to confirm equivalency before filing the H-1B petition.
What happens to my Advertising Sales Manager job if my H-1B isn't selected in the lottery?
You and your employer would need to assess alternatives. Options include applying in the next lottery cycle if your OPT or STEM extension still has time remaining, exploring cap-exempt employers like universities or nonprofits, or pursuing other visa categories like the O-1A if you've built a strong professional record. Planning for this scenario before lottery results is worth discussing with your employer early.
