How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Performance Manager
Lead with analytics tools in your resume
Performance Manager roles demand proficiency in platforms like Tableau, Google Analytics, or SQL. Quantify your impact with specific metrics. Employers who see measurable results worry less about the complexity of sponsoring a candidate on OPT.
Focus on mid-size companies in data-driven industries
Retail, SaaS, and e-commerce companies in the mid-market range frequently hire Performance Managers and have established HR teams familiar with work authorization. These employers are more agile on sponsorship than large bureaucratic organizations.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Performance Manager on OPT?
Yes, as long as your job is directly related to your degree field. Performance Manager roles typically align with degrees in business, marketing, data analytics, or information systems. Your DSO must authorize your OPT, and the role must fall within the field listed on your I-20. If your degree qualifies as STEM, you may also be eligible for a 24-month extension.
Do Performance Manager employers commonly sponsor OPT students?
It varies by company size and industry. Data-driven companies in e-commerce, SaaS, and digital marketing are more familiar with OPT authorization and more willing to sponsor the eventual H-1B. You can browse Performance Manager roles from verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate, which filters jobs specifically for F-1 OPT students.
Does a Performance Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree's CIP code, not the job title itself. If you graduated with a qualifying STEM degree, such as data science, computer information systems, or applied mathematics, and the Performance Manager role involves substantial quantitative or technical work, your DSO may approve the extension. Confirm your CIP code before applying to roles where the STEM extension is a key factor.
What happens to my OPT status if I lose a Performance Manager job?
You have a 90-day unemployment buffer during your OPT period. Unemployment days accumulate across all jobs, not just the most recent one. If you exceed 90 days total, you fall out of valid OPT status. STEM OPT recipients have the same 90-day limit. Report any employment gap to your DSO immediately and begin your job search as soon as possible.
Will a Performance Manager role lead to H-1B sponsorship after OPT?
Many employers who hire OPT students in performance-focused roles do sponsor H-1B petitions, but it is not guaranteed and depends on the individual employer's policies. The H-1B lottery runs once per year, so timing matters. Performance Manager positions generally qualify as specialty occupations given their analytical and strategic nature, which strengthens the H-1B petition.
