Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship as a Strategy Operations Manager
Target companies with a sponsorship track record
Focus on employers who have filed H-1B petitions for Strategy or Operations roles in prior years. This signals they understand the process and have infrastructure to support international hires beyond your OPT period.
Frame your degree as directly relevant
Strategy Operations roles typically require a degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related field. Explicitly connect your academic background to the role in your resume and cover letter to strengthen your OPT work authorization eligibility.
Highlight cross-functional project experience
Employers hiring for this role want evidence you can coordinate across teams and drive operational outcomes. Quantify your impact from internships or academic projects, such as process improvements, cost reductions, or initiative timelines you managed.
Start your job search at least three months early
OPT timelines are unforgiving. Applying three or more months before your start date gives employers time to complete internal approvals and gives you room to pursue the H-1B lottery if sponsorship is on the table.
Ask about sponsorship intent in the second interview
Raising sponsorship too early can hurt your candidacy. Wait until there is mutual interest, typically the second round, then ask directly whether the company has sponsored international employees in similar roles before.
Get your STEM OPT extension paperwork right
If your degree qualifies for STEM OPT, the 24-month extension gives you significantly more runway. Confirm your degree's CIP code qualifies, work with your DSO early, and file Form I-983 with your employer before your standard OPT expires.
Strategy Operations Manager OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Strategy Operations Manager on OPT?
Yes, if your degree is in a field directly related to the role, such as business administration, economics, industrial engineering, or operations management. OPT requires that your job is in your field of study, so document the connection clearly. A mismatch between your degree and job function can put your work authorization at risk.
Do Strategy Operations Manager roles typically lead to H-1B sponsorship?
Many do, particularly at larger technology, consulting, and financial services companies. Strategy and operations functions are well-established enough that employers in those industries have sponsored this role category before. Smaller startups are less predictable. Browsing OPT-friendly listings on Migrate Mate can help you identify employers with a demonstrated sponsorship history in this space.
Does a Strategy Operations Manager role qualify for STEM OPT extension?
It depends entirely on your degree, not the job title. If you hold a qualifying STEM degree, such as one in industrial engineering, operations research, information systems, or applied mathematics, and your role involves analytical or technical work, the extension is likely available. Confirm your degree's CIP code with your DSO before assuming you qualify.
What should I put on my Form I-983 for a Strategy Operations Manager position?
Your employer needs to describe how the role uses your STEM degree in a practical training capacity. For a Strategy Operations role, this typically includes responsibilities like data analysis, process modeling, operational planning, and performance measurement. Generic job descriptions rarely satisfy the I-983 standard, so work with your employer to make the connection between the role and your field of study explicit.
How competitive is the job market for Strategy Operations Manager roles on OPT?
This role sits at a senior end of the operations career path, so competition is real. Most employers want candidates who can demonstrate measurable business impact rather than just familiarity with frameworks. OPT students who have consulting internships, rotational program experience, or quantifiable operational results tend to advance further. Focus your search on employers who actively post OPT-friendly roles rather than applying broadly.
