How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Trust And Safety
Confirm your role qualifies for STEM OPT extension
Trust and Safety analyst and engineer roles typically qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension if your degree is in computer science, data science, or a related field. Verify your SOC code with your DSO before accepting an offer.
Frame your skills around policy enforcement and scaled decision-making
Hiring managers in Trust and Safety value candidates who can apply structured judgment at scale. Highlight experience with content moderation, fraud detection, risk analysis, or policy implementation to demonstrate you understand the core operational challenge.
Ask about OPT timelines during the offer stage, not after
Raise your OPT end date and sponsorship expectations before signing. Employers who have hired international candidates before will engage directly. Those who go vague or defer may not have a clear path, which is worth knowing upfront.
Pursue roles at companies with active STEM OPT e-Verify enrollment
Your employer must be E-Verify enrolled for STEM OPT extension eligibility. Confirm this during the interview process. Most established tech companies are already enrolled, but startups and smaller firms may not be, which affects your timeline.
Build cross-functional experience that strengthens your H-1B petition
Trust and Safety roles that intersect with engineering, legal, or data science are easier to support in a specialty occupation petition. Seek projects that demonstrate a degree-specific connection between your academic background and the technical work you perform.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do Trust and Safety jobs qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Many Trust and Safety roles qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, particularly analyst, engineer, and data-focused positions tied to STEM degree fields like computer science or data science. Qualification depends on your specific degree and the SOC code the employer assigns to your role. Confirm both with your DSO before accepting an offer.
Where can I find Trust and Safety jobs that welcome OPT students?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT and international students seeking visa-friendly employers. Filtering for Trust and Safety roles on Migrate Mate surfaces companies with a history of sponsoring international candidates, saving you time compared to applying broadly and discovering late that a company won't sponsor.
What degree backgrounds do Trust and Safety employers typically look for?
Computer science, data science, psychology, public policy, and communications are all represented in Trust and Safety hiring. Engineering-focused roles in detection systems and fraud infrastructure skew toward STEM degrees, while policy and operations roles draw from a broader range. Matching your degree to the right sub-function improves both your chances of landing the role and your STEM OPT eligibility.
How do I handle the conversation about OPT sponsorship with a Trust and Safety employer?
Raise it directly during the offer stage, not during initial screening. Frame it as a timeline question: explain your current OPT authorization period and ask whether the company has a process for H-1B sponsorship for strong performers. Companies that regularly hire international candidates in Trust and Safety will have a clear answer. Ambiguity at this stage is worth treating as a signal.
Can I switch Trust and Safety employers while on OPT without losing my authorization?
Yes, but you must report the job change to your DSO within 10 days and ensure the new role remains in a field related to your degree. If you're on the STEM OPT extension, the new employer must also be E-Verify enrolled and you'll need to submit a new I-983 training plan. Gaps between jobs exceeding the unemployment allowance can jeopardize your status.
