PACU Nurse Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pacu nurse in Pennsylvania?
To become a pacu nurse in Pennsylvania, you must first hold an active registered nurse license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, which requires completing an accredited ADN or BSN program and passing the NCLEX-RN. After licensure, most Pennsylvania hospitals require candidates to gain clinical experience in an ICU, step-down, or emergency setting before transitioning into PACU. Earning CPAN certification through the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification strengthens your application at competitive Pennsylvania health systems.
How much do PACU nurses make in Pennsylvania?
PACU nurses in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $96,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,800 for the lowest 10% to over $117,900 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pacu nurses in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring pacu nurses in Pennsylvania right now include SCA Health, Penn Medicine, and WellSpan Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's large integrated health systems, including academic medical centers and community hospital networks, account for the majority of ongoing pacu nurse openings across the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most pacu nurse jobs?
The cities with the most pacu nurse openings in Pennsylvania are Philadelphia, Lancaster, and York. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh generate the highest volume of postings because of their concentration of major academic medical centers and tertiary surgical programs, while cities like Allentown and Harrisburg reflect strong regional health systems that maintain active perioperative departments serving large suburban and rural catchment areas.
Are there remote pacu nurse jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. Post-anesthesia care is a hands-on, bedside clinical role that requires direct patient monitoring and intervention, so the vast majority of pacu nurse positions require on-site presence. About 0% of pacu nurse openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in perianesthesia education, quality review, or clinical documentation consulting rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a pacu nurse in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a new-graduate residency or transition-to-practice program at a large Pennsylvania health system such as UPMC, Penn Medicine, or Jefferson Health, which run structured perioperative and critical care residencies that accept nurses without PACU-specific backgrounds. Gaining experience first in a medical-surgical ICU or emergency department at a Pennsylvania community hospital is a common lateral move that opens PACU doors. Holding a current Pennsylvania RN license and ACLS certification before applying gives candidates a clear hiring edge.
Where can I find and apply to pacu nurse jobs in Pennsylvania?
