Pathologist Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pathologist in New Jersey?
To practice as a pathologist in New Jersey, you must hold an active medical license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners, which requires graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of postgraduate training, and passing the required licensure examinations. Most New Jersey hospital employers also require board certification through the American Board of Pathology following completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in anatomic or clinical pathology.
How much do pathologists make in New Jersey?
Pathologists in New Jersey earn a median of about $355,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $75,340 for the lowest 10% to over $422,520 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pathologists in New Jersey?
Employers hiring pathologists in New Jersey right now include Kid Clan, HiredFirst, and Summit Home Care, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's high concentration of academic medical centers and large regional health systems means pathologist openings tend to be stable and recurring rather than project-based.
Which New Jersey cities have the most pathologist jobs?
Newark, Morristown, and Union have the most pathologist openings in New Jersey. Newark and New Brunswick drive volume through their anchor academic medical centers and affiliated teaching hospitals, while Trenton draws demand from the capital region's community hospital network and state-affiliated health facilities, giving smaller markets a share of overall hiring activity.
Are there remote pathologist jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they are limited. About 0% of pathologist openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the largely hands-on nature of laboratory and surgical work. The roles most likely to carry a remote or hybrid component are those focused on digital pathology review, telepathology consultation, or administrative medical director functions that do not require daily on-site specimen handling.
How can I get hired as a pathologist in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing residency training at a New Jersey teaching hospital, as programs at institutions like Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and RWJBarnabas Health routinely convert residents and fellows into attending positions. New graduates should also target locum tenens roles at community hospitals, which regularly bring on early-career pathologists. Earning subspecialty fellowship experience, even without an attending record, significantly strengthens applications at New Jersey's academic and reference laboratory employers.
Where can I find and apply to pathologist jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to pathologist jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to see roles that match your subspecialty and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
