Mid Level Pathology Technician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level pathology technician job?
Position yourself around ownership, not just task completion. Highlight cases or workflows you managed independently, any quality assurance responsibilities you held, and your proficiency with histology, cytology, or specialized staining techniques relevant to the role. Tailor your application to show you can function with limited oversight, and make any certifications like HT or HTL from ASCP visible early in your resume.
Which companies hire mid level pathology technicians?

Hiring at this level tends to come from hospital systems, reference laboratories, and specialty diagnostic groups that need experienced technicians who can handle complex caseloads without close supervision.
Are there remote mid level pathology technician jobs?
Yes, though the role is predominantly hands-on and lab-based. About 0% of mid level pathology technician openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve digital pathology review, quality assurance, or laboratory informatics rather than direct specimen processing. On-site roles remain the clear majority at this experience level.
How do I move up to a mid level pathology technician role?
Moving into mid level means demonstrating consistent independent performance over your first few years, not just logging time. Build depth in a specialty area such as immunohistochemistry or frozen section technique, take on quality control tasks, and document measurable contributions like reduced turnaround times or error rates. Earning an HT or HTL certification from ASCP signals readiness for greater responsibility and strengthens your case for promotion.
