Personal Trainer Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a personal trainer in South Carolina?
South Carolina does not require a state-issued license to work as a personal trainer, but most employers require a certification from a nationally accredited organization such as NASM, ACE, ACSM, or NSCA before hiring. Candidates typically complete a self-study or in-person program, pass a proctored exam, and obtain CPR and AED certification. Large South Carolina employers like Prisma Health and MUSC Health may also require additional wellness coaching credentials for clinical or hospital-based roles.
Which companies hire personal trainers in South Carolina?
Companies currently hiring personal trainers in South Carolina include Crunch Fitness, Prisma Health, and Planet Fitness, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. South Carolina's mix of hospital wellness programs, commercial gym chains, and coastal resort properties means openings appear across a wider range of employer types than in many other states.
Which South Carolina cities have the most personal trainer jobs?
Greenville, Columbia, and Lexington have the most personal trainer openings in South Carolina. Charleston's hospitality and resort industry and Columbia's large university and healthcare presence drive demand in those metros, while Greenville's growing corporate headquarters base and expanding suburban gym market account for a strong share of openings in the Upstate region.
Are there remote personal trainer jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. Personal training is fundamentally hands-on work, so most roles require in-person presence at a gym, wellness center, or client location. About 0% of personal trainer openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be virtual coaching or online program design roles rather than traditional floor training positions.
How can I get hired as a personal trainer in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining a nationally recognized certification like NASM or ACE and applying for fitness floor attendant or group fitness instructor roles at commercial gyms, which regularly bring new staff into training positions. In South Carolina, Planet Fitness and YMCA locations across Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville often hire entry-level fitness staff and provide on-the-job training. Prisma Health and MUSC Health also hire wellness coaches at the associate level for candidates with a health science background but limited direct training experience.
Where can I find and apply to personal trainer jobs in South Carolina?
