Sonographer Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sonographer in South Carolina?
South Carolina does not issue a separate state sonography license, so the path to employment runs through national certification. Most employers require ARDMS registration in a specialty such as abdomen, OB/GYN, or vascular technology, or equivalent CCI credentials. Candidates typically complete an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program, then pass the national registry exam. Graduating from a CAAHEP-accredited program in South Carolina strengthens your candidacy with local hospital systems.
How much do sonographers make in South Carolina?
Sonographers in South Carolina earn a median of about $83,290 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,530 for the lowest 10% to over $102,540 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sonographers in South Carolina?
Employers hiring sonographers in South Carolina right now include Prisma Health, McLeod Health, and American Traveler, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Large integrated health systems and hospital-affiliated outpatient imaging networks account for the majority of consistent openings across the state.
Which South Carolina cities have the most sonographer jobs?
Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston have the most sonographer openings in South Carolina. Columbia leads because of its concentration of large health systems like Prisma Health and Lexington Medical Center, while Charleston's demand is driven by MUSC Health and a growing network of outpatient clinics, and Greenville's Bon Secours St. Francis campus anchors hiring in the Upstate region.
Are there remote sonographer jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of sonographer openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects the hands-on nature of diagnostic scanning. The portions of the role most likely to be performed remotely are image review, reporting support, or telesonography quality oversight rather than direct patient scanning.
How can I get hired as a sonographer in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a clinical externship embedded in an accredited sonography program, then applying to new-graduate or limited-experience postings at large South Carolina systems like Prisma Health or MUSC Health, which periodically run structured onboarding programs for new sonographers. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as radiologic technologist or cardiovascular technician can also transition into sonography by adding an ARDMS credential in a relevant specialty, which gives South Carolina hiring managers a concrete benchmark.
Where can I find and apply to sonographer jobs in South Carolina?
You can find and apply to sonographer jobs in South Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your specialty and experience level, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
