Pharmacy Intern Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pharmacy intern in Tennessee?
To work as a pharmacy intern in Tennessee, you must register with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern, which requires current enrollment in an ACPE-accredited PharmD program. The application is submitted directly to the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy and must be renewed annually. Most positions require completion of at least the first year of pharmacy school, and many employers expect students to be in their P2 year or beyond before hiring for paid intern roles.
Which companies hire pharmacy interns in Tennessee?
Companies currently hiring pharmacy interns in Tennessee include CVS Health, Walgreens, and Walmart, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's combination of large academic medical centers, regional hospital systems, and a dense retail pharmacy presence means intern opportunities extend well beyond the major chains into community and specialty pharmacy settings.
Which Tennessee cities have the most pharmacy intern jobs?
Knoxville, Nashville, and Chattanooga have the most pharmacy intern openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads due to its concentration of major hospital systems, corporate pharmacy operations, and a large academic medical community anchored by Vanderbilt and HCA Healthcare, while Memphis draws openings through Regional One Health and its role as a major distribution and retail hub, and Knoxville's University of Tennessee Health Science Center supports a steady pipeline of clinical rotation opportunities.
Are there remote pharmacy intern jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of pharmacy intern openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that most intern work involves direct patient interaction, prescription verification, and hands-on dispensing that requires physical presence. The portions of the role most suited to remote work include prior authorization support, medication therapy management documentation, and some specialty pharmacy call-center functions.
How can I get hired as a pharmacy intern in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a Tennessee Board of Pharmacy intern registration immediately upon starting pharmacy school and applying to paid technician-to-intern transition roles at large retail chains, where prior pharmacy technician experience is a direct bridge. Tennessee employers such as hospital systems affiliated with Vanderbilt or regional chains often recruit P1 students for technician roles that convert to intern status. Building PTCB certification as a technician and completing volunteer hours at community health clinics in Nashville or Memphis strengthens applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to pharmacy intern jobs in Tennessee?
