Pro Med Healthcare Services is currently searching for an Internal Medicine Physician (MD/DO) with experience in inpatient medicine, complex care Management and/or Behavioral Health setting.
- Title: Internal Medicine Physician (MD/DO)
- Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
- Schedule: Part-time, approximately 2–3 days per week
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with at least one day onsite each week
- Reports To: Group Medical Director
This physician will serve as a key member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, providing comprehensive medical care to adults receiving inpatient behavioral health treatment. The role includes conducting admission H&Ps, managing acute and chronic medical conditions, collaborating with psychiatrists and nursing staff, medication management, consultation services, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
The facility offers an innovative residential program designed for adults with higher-acuity psychiatric symptoms and co-occurring substance use disorders. this location is a designated destination for the most complex and acute cases, this campus provides stabilization, thorough evaluation, and evidence-based treatment within a structured clinical environment .
This campus provides medical detox and residential mental health treatment for adults with complex, high-acuity mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. A closely supervised, structured clinical environment with 24/7 nursing support ensures safety and stability throughout treatment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive Physical Exams: Conduct thorough history and physical examinations (H&Ps) for newly admitted patients to identify and manage underlying medical conditions.
- Inpatient Medical Management: Diagnose and treat chronic and acute illnesses (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease) in psychiatric patients.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, and pharmacists to provide integrated, holistic treatment plans.
- Medication Management: Review and manage patient medications, paying special attention to potential drug interactions between psychiatric medications and medical treatments.
- Consultation & Triage: Provide consult-liaison services on mental health units and triage referrals to external specialists when necessary.
- Clinical Documentation: Ensure accurate and timely medical documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in compliance with state, Joint Commission, and regulatory standards. Emergency Response: Provide medical assessment and management during emergency situations on psychiatric units.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution. Licensure: Active, unencumbered Florida Medical License (or eligible for licensure).
Certification: Board Certified (BC) in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
Experience: Experience in inpatient hospital medicine, complex care management, or prior experience in a behavioral health setting is highly preferred.
Skills: Ability to work in a high-acuity environment, excellent verbal/written communication, and strong team-based collaboration.
- MD or DO from an accredited institution
- Active, unrestricted Florida medical license (or eligible for licensure)
- Board Certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM)
- Experience in inpatient medicine, complex care management, and/or behavioral health settings strongly preferred

- Demonstrates a working knowledge of behavioral health management practices and clinical operations.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of state and federal regulatory and various accreditation requirements related to behavioral health management.
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have good clinical skills to assess dynamics accurately and develop effective treatment strategies within the context of the overall treatment plan.
- Must have good analytical ability to evaluate information reported by all members of the treatment team and revise treatment strategies accordingly.
- Must have leadership abilities to support the clinicians, nurses and care workers working with the population.
- Must be flexible regarding program needs.
