Planner Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a planner job in Charlotte?
Target Charlotte's most active hiring sectors: urban and regional planning through Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte, supply chain and logistics with the distribution hubs off I-85 and I-77, and financial planning within the major banking corridor Uptown. Candidates who can show familiarity with Charlotte's transit expansion plans, zoning frameworks, or regional growth pressures stand out. Networking through local APA Carolina chapter events also opens doors that job boards miss.
Which companies hire planners in Charlotte?
Charlotte planner roles are posted by Xylem, PSA Airlines, and Atlas Copco and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Charlotte's employer mix runs from large financial institutions and healthcare systems Uptown to government agencies managing the city's rapid growth and logistics firms anchored along its major freight corridors.
Are there remote planner jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though it depends heavily on the specialty. Hands-on roles like site planners and field-based urban planners are almost always on-site, while financial planners and supply chain analysts often work hybrid or fully remote. About 67% of planner openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Analytical and client-facing financial planning roles in Charlotte's banking sector tend to offer the most scheduling flexibility.
How can I get a planner job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is through public sector internships or assistant roles with the City of Charlotte Planning Department or Mecklenburg County, both of which regularly hire entry-level candidates. On the financial side, associate financial planner roles at the city's wealth management and banking firms accept recent graduates. A familiarity with GIS tools is a strong differentiator for urban planning roles, while a financial planning coursework background helps on the advisory side.
Which industries hire the most planners in Charlotte?
Most planner openings in Charlotte sit in Manufacturing, Food & Beverage, and Chemicals & Materials, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Charlotte's role as a major banking hub, a fast-growing Sun Belt city managing dense infrastructure investment, and a regional logistics center all drive consistent, year-round demand for planners across those sectors.
