Job Title: Data Platform Product Manager
Job Summary: This is not a feature PM role. The position owns a foundational data platform that every downstream product depends on. Success means fewer bespoke integrations, better data quality, and a platform team that can move fast because strong bets are made and hard trade-offs are navigated effectively.
Essential Functions:
- Drive the strategy, planning, and execution of the Provider Data Pipeline focused on productized interoperability layer supporting repeatable, scalable data ingestion and exchange.
- Partner with Engineering, Data Architecture, InfoSec, and Data Operations to deliver reusable integration modules and standardized workflows.
- Manage the roadmap for enterprise data interoperability, including FHIR pipelines and modular transformation components.
- Develop solution and data journey maps defining standardized ingestion, normalization, and verification processes.
- Serve as SME on Provider Data Management with a focus on scalable directory and credentialing models.
- Lead discovery and validation cycles to ensure standardized, reusable integration patterns meet customer needs.
- Partner with Compliance to stay ahead of regulatory changes (CMS mandates, public health data-sharing requirements), translating mandates into development requirements before they become blockers rather than after.
- Lead FHIR adoption and communicate interoperability value across teams.
- Translate customer pain points and operational signals into platform-level investments, not one-off fixes. This role receives high volumes of feedback from multiple directions — you must be able to separate noise from signal.
- Comfort working with offshore team members to ensure continuous development.
- Create documentation around strategy, product offerings, and sales support as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- 5-7 years Product Management experience in healthcare data platforms or interoperability.
- Ability to create standardized integration frameworks replacing custom connections.
- Deep familiarity with integrating with 3rd party provider data management systems like EHR, Credentialing Systems and FHIR endpoints.
- Experience defining canonical data models and reusable ingestion pipelines.
- Strong understanding of Provider Data Management.
- Skilled in translating interoperability concepts into requirements and narratives.
- Proven ability to synthesize customer insights and market drivers.
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: 5-7 years Product Management with responsibility for healthcare provider data and general interoperability.
Supervision: N/A
Certifications: N/A
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a variety of both internal and external sources.
Physical Capabilities: The physical capabilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Tips for Your Platform Product Manager Job Search
Quantify platform scale in your resume
Platform roles attract scrutiny on scale: how many internal teams consumed your platform, what throughput it handled, how many integrations you shipped. Replace vague outcome statements with concrete platform metrics so hiring managers can benchmark your scope against their own system.
Showcase your API and developer tooling fluency
Platform product managers are expected to speak credibly with engineers about REST vs. GraphQL trade-offs, versioning strategies, and SDK design. Your resume and portfolio should surface specific technical decisions you drove, not just the products you shipped.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists platform product manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by platform archetype before applying
Platform PM roles split into meaningfully different archetypes: internal developer platforms, monetized external APIs, data platforms, and marketplace infrastructure. Tailor your cover letter to the specific archetype in the job description rather than sending a generic application.
Prepare a build-vs-buy platform case study
Interviewers at platform-focused companies routinely ask candidates to walk through a make-or-buy decision. Prepare one real example where you evaluated building a capability in-house against adopting a third-party solution, including how you framed the trade-off for stakeholders.
Negotiate scope alongside compensation
Platform PM offers often include ambiguous ownership boundaries. Before accepting, clarify which platform layers fall under your roadmap, which teams are customers vs. partners, and how success is measured. Scope clarity at offer stage prevents misalignment six months in.
Platform Product Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most platform product managers?
The companies hiring the most platform product managers right now include Morgan Stanley, Klaviyo, and Alvarez & Marsal, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is consistently strongest at companies that treat their platform as a product offered to internal engineering teams or external developers.
How many platform product manager jobs are remote?
About 36% of platform product manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the technical and cross-functional nature of the role. Developer platform and data platform sub-areas tend to carry the highest remote availability, since collaboration happens primarily through documentation, APIs, and async engineering reviews rather than in-person workshops.
How do you become a platform product manager?
Start by building direct experience with developer-facing or infrastructure products, either in an associate PM role at a company with a platform team or by moving laterally from engineering or technical program management. Develop fluency in API design, developer tooling, and service ownership concepts. Build a portfolio that demonstrates you can define platform adoption metrics, manage customers who are internal engineering teams, and prioritize foundational capabilities against feature requests from multiple stakeholders.
Can you get a platform product manager role without direct platform experience?
Yes, candidates transition into platform PM roles from adjacent backgrounds, but you need a credible bridge. Engineering, solutions architecture, and technical program management experience translate well because platform teams value candidates who understand developer workflows and system constraints. In your application, highlight any work where you served internal teams as customers, defined shared services, or made decisions that affected multiple downstream products simultaneously.
What does the platform product manager interview process look like?
The process typically runs four to six stages. An initial recruiter screen is followed by a hiring manager conversation focused on your platform background and how you define platform success. Technical rounds assess your understanding of system design trade-offs and API product decisions. A cross-functional or behavioral round evaluates how you manage competing priorities from multiple engineering team customers. Most processes close with a product case study or take-home exercise involving a platform build-vs-buy or adoption challenge.
Where can I find and apply to platform product manager jobs?
You can find and apply to platform product manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to each listing from the page.
