Associate Engineer is responsible for providing engineering input to the assigned product development projects assigned to include interfacing with the cross functional team consisting of engineering, operations (industrial engineering, production, and material procurement), sourcing, quality, service, and marketing.
Essential Duties:
- Prepares and maintains design drawings, schematics, specifications, kits, BOMs and/or instructions for field kits using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software in accordance with applicable Generac and industry standards.
- Works closely with design originators (e.g. engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies, or to prepare drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs and complex full assemblies, which require a high degree of precision using CAD or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) equipment.
- Identifies solutions and opportunities.
- Creates, modifies and controls a variety of detailed and complex documentation (models and drawings) from engineers’ and senior staff’s sketches, plans, written and verbal instructions.
- Develops and maintains select departmental standards and procedures.
- Regular Vendor Contact Mentor.
- Coach less experienced Designers and entry level Engineers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 15 years of engineering experience in product design for engine/motor driven machinery, equipment or powered tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 12 years of experience in generator or engine design work solving complex problems requiring analytical and mechanical skills.
- 10 years of advanced technical experience in engineering systems, including 3D modeling in CREO or SolidWorks.
- 7 years of experience using Windchill PLM and SAP or comparably complex ERP systems and data management tools.
- 7 years of experience mentoring others.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High level of expertise in 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting tools and concepts (Creo or SolidWorks preferred).
- Superior mechanical aptitude.
- Superior conceptualization, visualization and creativity.
- Superior time management, prioritization & analytical problem solving.
- Ability to perform detail oriented work with high degree of accuracy.
- Design experience with a variety of materials (e.g., plastics, castings (sand and die), sheet metal, etc.) and a basic knowledge of material specs and use.
- Expert in new product design and development.
- Extensive understanding of GD&T aligned to ASME Y14.5 concepts and application.
- Subject Matter Expert that may be called upon to lead training and review results of others.
- Broad tolerance stack, stress, strain and form, fit, and function understanding with superior application capabilities; Subject Matter Expert that may be called upon to lead training and review results of others.
- Experience with complex features, parts, and assemblies.
- Complete understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Coaches, mentors less experienced Designers and entry level Engineers.
- Complies with record-keeping and file sharing conventions.
- Adaptable, able to adjust to ongoing changes and improvements.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.
On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
