Director of Procurement and Finance
Job Summary
The Director of Procurement and Finance is responsible for leading the organization’s financial strategy in the areas of procurement, capital planning, complex business modeling, mergers & acquisitions, and evaluation of organic and inorganic growth opportunities while supporting operational turnaround efforts.
This role serves as a key business partner to executive leadership, providing financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and operational insights to drive informed decision-making. The Director of Procurement and Finance oversees procurement functions, financial controls, cash management, complex modeling, audits, and regulatory compliance while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
This position requires strong leadership, analytical expertise, business acumen, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. By fostering financial stewardship and operational efficiency, the Director of Procurement and Finance plays a critical role in supporting organizational growth and performance.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Results
Strategic Procurement Leadership
- Lead the organization’s procurement strategy, planning, and execution, optimizing a multi-million dollar vendor spend to improve bottom-line margins.
- Oversee procurement governance, vendor management, and contract review processes to ensure alignment with organizational objectives, operational requirements, and financial targets.
- Partner with operational leaders to evaluate vendor performance, negotiate financial terms, and identify cost savings and value creation opportunities.
- Develop and implement procurement-related financial controls, approval processes, and purchasing policies to support compliance and operational efficiency.
- Lead a strategic National Accounts initiative across Saltchuk sister companies on behalf of TOTE, leveraging joint purchasing power to consolidate vendor spend, capture cross-company synergies, and deliver measurable bottom-line cost savings.
Financial Strategy & Business Partnership
- Analyze financial performance and trends to develop actionable dashboards and KPIs that provide executive leadership with real-time strategic insights.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
- Partner with department leaders to support budget development, financial analysis, and operational decision-making.
- Support strategic initiatives, business planning, and organizational growth through financial modeling and analysis.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and increased financial efficiency.
- Oversee vendor contracts, financial agreements, and procurement-related financial reviews.
Executive Reporting & Growth Initiatives
- Prepare financial presentations, reports, and materials for board meetings, leadership meetings, and stakeholders.
- Actively lead or support financial due diligence, modeling, and post-merger integration for potential organic and inorganic growth opportunities.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, accounting standards, and company policies.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Certifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required.
- CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience required, ideally demonstrating a track record of driving operational turnarounds or scaling corporate functions.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and strategic financial planning processes.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, audits, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- A proven track record of mentoring and elevating finance/accounting teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
- Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable business recommendations.
- Strong proficiency with ERP systems, financial software, Microsoft Excel, and reporting tools.
- Experience supporting executive leadership and presenting financial information to senior stakeholders or boards preferred.
- Prior experience in multi-site, transportation, logistics, maritime, or operational environments preferred.
