Production Supervisor Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a production supervisor in Illinois?
Most production supervisors in Illinois move into the role from hourly production or quality technician positions after gaining hands-on manufacturing experience. Illinois does not require a state-issued license for production supervisors, so employers focus on a combination of a relevant associate or bachelor's degree and shop-floor tenure. Completing a lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification strengthens a candidate's profile considerably and is frequently listed as a preferred qualification in Illinois postings.
How much do production supervisors make in Illinois?
Production supervisors in Illinois earn a median of about $75,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,280 for the lowest 10% to over $103,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire production supervisors in Illinois?
Employers hiring production supervisors in Illinois right now include NOW FOODS, Pregis, and Ferrero, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of food processing plants, heavy equipment manufacturers, and chemical producers means openings appear consistently across both the Chicago metropolitan area and downstate industrial communities.
Which Illinois cities have the most production supervisor jobs?
Chicago, Elgin, and Bloomingdale have the most production supervisor openings in Illinois. Chicago and its southwestern suburbs, including Joliet and Aurora, generate most listings through their dense clusters of food manufacturing, logistics, and industrial facilities, while Rockford draws steady demand from its long-established machinery and aerospace components manufacturing base.
Are there remote production supervisor jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're rare. Production supervisors are fundamentally on-site roles requiring direct oversight of equipment, hourly staff, and active production lines, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of production supervisor openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve scheduling, reporting, or coordination duties rather than active floor supervision.
How can I get hired as a production supervisor in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a production associate, quality technician, or team lead role at a large Illinois manufacturer and building floor experience from there. Caterpillar, Kraft Heinz, and Illinois Tool Works all run structured supervisor development programs that advance high-performing hourly employees. Completing a lean manufacturing or industrial technology certificate at a community college such as Elgin or Moraine Valley sharpens a candidate's profile and signals readiness for a supervisory track without prior management experience.
Where can I find and apply to production supervisor jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to production supervisor jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings updated regularly. Find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
