ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Professional, Structural Engineering is an entry to mid-level position in Wight & Company’s Structural Engineering group. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented structural engineering professional with 2-5 years of experience to contribute to our diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in engineering principles, a passion for technical design, and a keen interest in integrated design and delivery processes. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience in all phases of project development.
Technical Responsibilities
- Perform structural engineering analysis, design, and calculations for vertical building structures under the direct supervision of a senior engineer.
- Analysis and design of structural steel, reinforced concrete and masonry framing systems for vertical building structures.
- Participation in submittal of documentation for permitting/regulatory review with multiple local agencies and jurisdictions.
- Utilization of RAM Structural System, SAP2000, Enercalc and associated engineering analysis and design software.
- Utilization of Autodesk Revit Structure building information modeling (BIM) software.
Core Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of design documentation including BIM models, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Conduct research on materials, products, building codes, systems, and sustainable design practices to inform project decisions.
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including architecture, sustainability, construction, and other consultants, to support the integrated delivery of projects.
- Perform onsite surveys of existing building conditions and documenting field measurements and observations.
- Perform construction phase activities including submittal review and construction site observations.
- Participate in cross-discipline career development. Engage in continuous learning opportunities, attend industry events, and participate in internal training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Adapts to various roles within a project and performs at a high level. Proactively accepts tasks beyond the primary scope and adjusts to changing priorities to ensure project success, team collaboration, and firm excellence.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from ABET accredited structural engineering program. Master of Science (MS) degree from ABET accredited structural engineering program a plus.
- Experience: 2-5 years of full-time structural engineering experience in an engineering firm, with exposure to analysis, design, and documentation for vertical building projects utilizing structural steel, reinforced concrete and masonry framing systems. Internship in an engineering firm a plus.
- Knowledge: IBC, ASCE and ICC Building Codes and Standards a plus.
- Licensing and Certification: Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam and EIT Certification a plus. Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license a plus.
- Skills: critical thinking, analytical problem-solving skills, technical expertise, attention to detail, adaptability, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Passion: A genuine interest in integrated design and delivery, with a commitment to professional growth and development.
COMPENSATION
- Salary Range: $75,000 - $115,000. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
