Program Manager Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program manager in Alabama?
Most program manager roles in Alabama require a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field, followed by several years of project or operations experience. Alabama does not issue a state license for program managers, but earning the Project Management Professional credential through the Project Management Institute is the standard credential that Alabama employers, especially in Huntsville's defense sector and Birmingham's healthcare systems, treat as a hiring requirement or strong differentiator.
Which companies hire program managers in Alabama?
Alabama program manager roles are posted by University of Alabama, Birmingham, Invariant Corporation, and Leidos and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Huntsville's defense and aerospace concentration means federal contractors account for a large share of openings, while Birmingham's healthcare and financial services sectors round out the statewide demand.
Which Alabama cities have the most program manager jobs?
Huntsville, Birmingham, and Montgomery have the highest concentration of program manager openings in Alabama. Huntsville leads because of its dense cluster of defense contractors and federal agencies tied to Redstone Arsenal, while Birmingham draws demand from healthcare networks, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters, and Montgomery contributes through state government agencies and utilities procurement programs.
Are there remote program manager jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and more than many fields. About 51% of program manager openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based, coordination-heavy nature of the role. The functions most commonly performed remotely are stakeholder reporting, budget tracking, and vendor management, while programs tied to on-site federal contracts or manufacturing operations tend to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a program manager in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or program analyst role, which large Alabama employers like Northrop Grumman, Huntsville Hospital, and SAIC use as feeder positions into full program management. UAB and Auburn University also run leadership development programs that place early-career candidates in structured operations roles. Earning a CAPM credential from the Project Management Institute before applying signals readiness to Alabama hiring managers even without a full program management title on your resume.
Where can I find and apply to program manager jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to program manager jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alabama openings across defense, healthcare, technology, and government sectors. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each one.
