Project Architect Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project architect in Arizona?
To practice as a licensed architect in Arizona, you must register with the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, which requires completing an NAAB-accredited professional degree, finishing the Architectural Experience Program hours, and passing all sections of the Architect Registration Examination. Arizona also accepts reciprocal licensure for architects already registered in other states. Most firms expect candidates to hold or be actively pursuing their license before being promoted into a project architect role.
Which companies hire project architects in Arizona?
Employers hiring project architects in Arizona right now include HDR, SmithGroup, and Dekker, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arizona's concentration of healthcare systems, resort hospitality developers, and large mixed-use construction firms means demand stays relatively steady throughout the year across the Phoenix metro and Tucson markets.
Which Arizona cities have the most project architect jobs?
The cities with the most project architect openings in Arizona are Phoenix, Tucson, and Chandler. Phoenix dominates the distribution because it anchors the state's largest commercial construction and healthcare development activity, while Scottsdale attracts luxury residential and hospitality design work, and Tucson supports a smaller but consistent market tied to the University of Arizona, federal facilities, and regional healthcare expansion.
Are there remote project architect jobs in Arizona?
Yes, but they're rare. About 38% of project architect openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which reflects the hands-on, site-coordination nature of the role. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely are design development, documentation review, and client presentation phases, while construction administration typically requires on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a project architect in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for an architectural intern or project coordinator role at a mid-size Phoenix or Tucson firm while actively logging Architectural Experience Program hours toward licensure. Large Arizona employers like SmithGroup and DWL Architects hire recent graduates into structured intern programs, and healthcare architecture firms often bring in entry-level staff as document coordinators or BIM technicians. Building a portfolio that includes university thesis work, design competitions, or pro bono community projects strengthens any application before licensure is complete.
Where can I find and apply to project architect jobs in Arizona?
You can find and apply to project architect jobs in Arizona on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and target location, and apply directly to each position.
