Maybe you're bored and need a new challenge. Or you're tired of shipping designs into a void and never seeing them built. Or maybe you're looking for a job where you can do great work from anywhere.
Whatever the reason, we want you to know that LT is different. Not air-quotes "different," but more like "breathing easy for the first time in a long time" different.
It's a place where you can write your own story and make a difference along the way. You'll have the freedom to figure out what needs to be done, alongside people who are curious and love a good challenge too.
We're currently looking to add a Senior UX Designer to this nerd club of ours. Five-ish years in and still learning everyday:
Here's what you can expect as a UX Designer at LT:
You'll help organizations design intuitive, human-centered software that cements their place in the digital economy.
You'll embed with a client team, owning the work end-to-end.
You'll work side-by-side with engineers, not toss designs over a wall, so what ships looks and works the way you intended.
You'll measure whether the work did what it was supposed to.
You'll help the people around you get better, teammates and client teams both, by sharing what you know while you're doing the work.
You'll speak up. If you see something that could be better, say something, no matter whose job it "is."
You'll keep growing through training, mentorship, and whatever else helps you get where you want to go.
Come humble and curious. Be honest about what you don't know yet. Care about the work more than the title on the process diagram.

Project Designer Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project designer in Iowa?
Most project designer roles in Iowa require a bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design, industrial design, or a closely related field. Architects working toward licensure register with the Iowa Architectural Examining Board and complete the Architect Registration Examination. Interior designers seeking the voluntary title of Registered Interior Designer in Iowa apply through the Iowa Interior Design Examining Board. Candidates without licensure still compete effectively by building a strong portfolio and gaining experience through internships at Iowa design and engineering firms.
Which companies hire project designers in Iowa?
Employers hiring project designers in Iowa right now include EFCO, Crystal, and State of Iowa, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's manufacturing base, active commercial construction sector, and well-established architecture and engineering firms keep consistent demand for project designers across the state.
Which Iowa cities have the most project designer jobs?
Des Moines, Ames, and Cedar Rapids have the most project designer openings in Iowa. Des Moines drives the bulk of listings as the state's largest metro, home to major architecture, engineering, and commercial development firms, while Cedar Rapids and Iowa City add volume through manufacturing operations, university-linked construction projects, and regional design studios.
Are there remote project designer jobs in Iowa?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since project designers frequently need to review physical sites, collaborate on physical models, and coordinate with on-site construction teams. About 40% of project designer openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with most of those positions involving the schematic and drafting phases of work that can be handled off-site.
How can I get hired as a project designer in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or junior drafting role at an Iowa architecture or engineering firm, where hands-on work builds the portfolio employers expect. Large Iowa employers like Shive-Hattery and Snyder & Associates regularly bring on interns and entry-level design staff. Adjacent roles such as CAD technician, architectural drafter, or design coordinator are common starting points that feed into project designer positions. Completing LEED coursework or earning an AutoCAD or Revit certification strengthens a candidate's application without requiring years of experience.
