Project Site Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project site manager in Texas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture combined with field experience in a superintendent or assistant project manager role. Texas does not require a state-issued contractor license for project site managers employed by licensed firms, but the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation oversees the broader construction industry. Earning a PMP credential through PMI or a CCM through CMAA significantly strengthens candidacy with Texas employers in both private and public sectors.
How much do project site managers make in Texas?
Project site managers in Texas earn a median of about $101,470 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,040 for the lowest 10% to over $166,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project site managers in Texas?
Employers hiring project site managers in Texas right now include Vestas, Fluor, and HDR, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, petrochemical, and large-scale commercial development means many of the most active hirers are firms with long-term infrastructure contracts tied to the Gulf Coast corridor and the major metro growth markets.
Which Texas cities have the most project site manager jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Abilene lead Texas for project site manager openings right now. Houston drives the highest volume due to its petrochemical, industrial, and port infrastructure projects, while Dallas-Fort Worth reflects sustained commercial and mixed-use development, and San Antonio's growth is tied to large-scale military base construction, healthcare campuses, and expanding suburban infrastructure managed by regional general contractors with deep local roots.
Are there remote project site manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 9% of project site manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how hands-on the role is by nature. The portions most likely to be handled remotely are pre-construction planning, scheduling, procurement coordination, and owner reporting, while active site supervision, subcontractor management, and daily safety walks remain firmly on-site duties.
How can I get hired as a project site manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an assistant project manager or field engineer role with a large Texas general contractor such as Hensel Phelps, SpawGlass, or Balfour Beatty, which run structured graduate development programs for candidates with a construction management or engineering degree. Lateral moves from estimating, scheduling coordination, or superintendent assistant positions are common stepping stones. Completing an OSHA 30-Hour certification and earning an associate credential through AGC of Texas or a local community college construction program adds measurable credibility for candidates without years of direct site experience.
Where can I find and apply to project site manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to project site manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across construction, energy, and infrastructure sectors. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each employer through the listings.
