Property Casualty Insurance Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a property casualty insurance professional in New York?
You need an active Property and Casualty license issued by the New York Department of Financial Services, which oversees all insurance licensing in the state. Candidates must pass the New York Property and Casualty licensing exam administered through Pearson VUE, then apply through the DFS licensing portal. Most entry roles also require a bachelor's degree, and many employers in New York expect applicants to hold or be working toward a designation such as the CPCU.
Which companies hire property casualty insurances in New York?
Employers hiring property casualty insurances in New York right now include USI Insurance Services and EY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global carrier headquarters, large wholesale brokers, and specialty risk firms means openings appear across a wide range of company sizes and commercial focuses.
Which New York cities have the most property casualty insurance jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Rye Brook consistently have the most property casualty insurance openings in New York. New York City dominates because it is home to the headquarters and major regional offices of the country's largest carriers and brokers, while White Plains and Melville support substantial suburban operations for commercial lines underwriting and claims teams serving the broader downstate market.
Are there remote property casualty insurance jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many financial services fields, since underwriting and claims analysis are largely desk-based and document-driven. About 20% of property casualty insurance openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting carriers' continued investment in flexible work arrangements. Commercial lines underwriting, claims handling, and loss control advisory roles are the positions most frequently listed as fully remote or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a property casualty insurance professional in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an underwriting assistant or claims trainee role, which major New York carriers like Chubb, AIG, and Travelers post specifically for candidates without prior insurance experience. Completing the New York Property and Casualty licensing exam before applying demonstrates commitment and removes a common hiring barrier. Adjacent backgrounds in finance, paralegal work, or customer service at a bank or credit union translate well, and several New York brokerages run structured associate programs that provide on-the-job mentorship toward a full underwriting or claims role.
Where can I find and apply to property casualty insurance jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to property casualty insurance jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to each one.
