Earning the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America strengthens candidacy significantly, particularly for corporate and government roles based in Detroit and Lansing.
How much do public relations specialists make in Michigan?
Public relations specialists in Michigan earn a median of about $65,300 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,560 for the lowest 10% to over $117,290 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire public relations specialists in Michigan?
Employers hiring public relations specialists in Michigan right now include Rocket, Avery Brewing, and Crystal Mountain, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's large automotive headquarters, major health systems, research universities, and state government agencies are among the most consistent sources of full-time public relations openings across the state.
Which Michigan cities have the most public relations specialist jobs?

Detroit leads because of its concentration of Fortune 500 automotive headquarters, major health systems, and nonprofit organizations, while Grand Rapids draws communications roles from its large healthcare corridor and manufacturing base, and Ann Arbor benefits from the University of Michigan and its surrounding technology and research sector.
Are there remote public relations specialist jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than many fields, since public relations work is largely writing- and communication-driven and transfers well to remote settings. About 0% of public relations specialist openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broad employer flexibility in this role. Media relations strategy, content development, and internal communications are the functions most commonly offered on a fully remote or hybrid basis.

Large Michigan employers such as Michigan Medicine, Michigan State University, and Detroit-area automotive suppliers regularly bring on entry-level communications associates and recent graduates. Building a portfolio of writing samples, managing social media for a campus organization, and pursuing the APR Certificate in Principles of Public Relations all signal readiness to hiring managers who value demonstrated output over years of tenure.
