Purchasing Assistant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a purchasing assistant in California?
Most purchasing assistant roles in California require at minimum an associate degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field, with many employers preferring a bachelor's degree. California does not require a state-issued license for this role, but earning a nationally recognized credential such as the Certified Professional in Supply Management from the Institute for Supply Management strengthens your application considerably and is widely respected by California employers in aerospace, tech, and healthcare.
How much do purchasing assistants make in California?
Purchasing assistants in California earn a median of about $56,160 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $40,100 for the lowest 10% to over $75,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire purchasing assistants in California?
Employers hiring purchasing assistants in California right now include Meta, Aramco Imports, and Beach House, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of aerospace, defense, technology, and large healthcare systems means purchasing roles here tend to involve complex supplier networks and multi-category spend.
Which California cities have the most purchasing assistant jobs?
Los Angeles, Menlo Park, and Alameda have the most purchasing assistant openings in California. Los Angeles leads due to its dense mix of aerospace, entertainment, and healthcare employers, while the Bay Area reflects demand from technology and life sciences companies, and San Diego's concentration of defense contractors and biotech firms drives consistent openings in that corridor.
Are there remote purchasing assistant jobs in California?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical roles because purchasing assistants frequently coordinate with on-site receiving, warehouse, and operations teams. About 17% of purchasing assistant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements more common than fully remote. Vendor communication, purchase order processing, and spend reporting are the tasks most often handled off-site.
How can I get hired as a purchasing assistant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to administrative coordinator or supply chain associate roles at large California employers in healthcare and manufacturing, where internal rotation programs give new hires exposure to procurement workflows. Kaiser Permanente, Northrop Grumman, and major California county health systems regularly hire entry-level operations staff who move into purchasing support within a year. Completing an introductory supply chain certificate through a California community college and demonstrating ERP familiarity, even through coursework, gives candidates a clear edge in screening.
Where can I find and apply to purchasing assistant jobs in California?
You can find and apply to purchasing assistant jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and metro areas. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
