Most purchasing assistant roles in New York are open to candidates with an associate or bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field, and no state license is required. New York employers in retail, healthcare, and finance typically expect familiarity with procurement software and basic contract or vendor documentation. Entry-level candidates often move into the role from administrative assistant or inventory coordinator positions, and earning a Certified Professional in Supply Management credential strengthens competitiveness noticeably.
How much do purchasing assistants make in New York?
Purchasing assistants in New York earn a median of about $54,080 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $40,630 for the lowest 10% to over $74,030 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire purchasing assistants in New York?
Employers hiring purchasing assistants in New York right now include Saks Global, Adelphi University, and Alice + Olivia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense mix of retail headquarters, hospital systems, and financial institutions means purchasing roles appear across a wider range of industries here than in most other states.
Which New York cities have the most purchasing assistant jobs?
New York, Garden City, and Long Island City are the New York cities with the most purchasing assistant openings. New York City dominates due to its concentration of retail and fashion headquarters, major hospital systems, and corporate procurement departments, while Buffalo and Albany reflect demand from healthcare networks, state government agencies, and regional manufacturing operations that maintain active purchasing functions.
Are there remote purchasing assistant jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles, since purchasing assistants frequently handle physical documentation, receiving, and on-site vendor coordination. About 33% of purchasing assistant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, concentrated mainly at employers where procurement work is documentation-heavy rather than warehouse or floor-based. Vendor communication and purchase order processing are the tasks most likely to be performed remotely.

Institutions such as NYC Health and Hospitals and large retail groups headquartered in New York City regularly bring on entry-level procurement support staff. Completing a supply chain certificate through a CUNY or SUNY program, or earning a Certified Professional in Supply Management credential, gives candidates without direct experience a concrete credential that New York hiring managers recognize.
