QA Engineer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa engineer in Tennessee?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a qa engineer in Tennessee, so the path centers on education and verified skills. Most Tennessee employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information systems, though strong candidates from related fields with a demonstrable testing portfolio are regularly hired. Earning an ISTQB Foundation Level certification is widely recognized by Tennessee technology and healthcare employers as a credible entry credential that distinguishes candidates without years of experience.
How much do QA engineers make in Tennessee?
QA engineers in Tennessee earn a median of about $91,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,580 for the lowest 10% to over $125,760 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa engineers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring qa engineers in Tennessee right now include Food Lion, Starbucks, and Elevation Foods, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's mix of large healthcare systems, automotive suppliers, and logistics technology companies means qa engineer demand is distributed across multiple industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Tennessee cities have the most qa engineer jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Oak Ridge are the Tennessee cities with the most qa engineer openings. Nashville leads because of its dense concentration of healthcare IT companies, insurtech firms, and enterprise software vendors, while Knoxville benefits from Oak Ridge national laboratory-adjacent tech employers and regional manufacturing, and Memphis draws demand through its large logistics, supply chain technology, and financial services operations.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 29% of qa engineer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and software-centric nature of most testing work. Automation testing roles and software QA analyst positions are the most commonly offered remotely, while embedded systems or hardware validation roles tied to Tennessee manufacturing sites typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a qa engineer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into QA from a closely related role such as a manual tester, technical support analyst, or business analyst where you have already been writing or reviewing requirements. Tennessee healthcare employers like HCA Healthcare and community health networks regularly bring on QA associates through rotational technology programs aimed at recent graduates. Building a GitHub portfolio with automated test scripts and earning an ISTQB Foundation certification before applying significantly strengthens a candidacy against more experienced applicants.
Where can I find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
