Quality Specialist Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a quality specialist in California?
Most quality specialists in California enter the field with a bachelor's degree in engineering, life sciences, or a related discipline, though associate degrees combined with relevant certifications are accepted in manufacturing and food production. California does not issue a state license specific to quality specialists, but employers consistently favor candidates holding ASQ credentials such as the Certified Quality Technician or Certified Quality Engineer. Experience with FDA-regulated or aerospace-regulated environments is a strong differentiator in California's dominant industries.
How much do quality specialists make in California?
Quality specialists in California earn a median of about $54,300 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,750 for the lowest 10% to over $88,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire quality specialists in California?
Employers hiring quality specialists in California right now include Rivian, Apple, and B. Braun, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of medical device, aerospace, and semiconductor firms means hiring is consistent year-round across both large multinationals and mid-size contract manufacturers throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most quality specialist jobs?
Los Angeles, San Jose, and Irvine post the most quality specialist openings in California. Los Angeles and San Diego drive volume through their dense clusters of aerospace contractors, biotech firms, and medical device manufacturers, while San Jose sits at the center of Silicon Valley's semiconductor and electronics supply chain, which requires robust quality functions at nearly every stage of production.
Are there remote quality specialist jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Quality specialist work is largely hands-on, requiring physical presence on production floors, in laboratories, or at supplier sites, which limits full remote arrangements. About 9% of quality specialist openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to involve documentation review, audit coordination, or supplier quality management rather than direct inspection duties.
How can I get hired as a quality specialist in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a quality technician or quality inspector role in California's medical device or food manufacturing sectors, where employers such as Hologic, Dole Packaged Foods, and contract electronics manufacturers regularly hire candidates without extensive backgrounds. Pursuing an ASQ Certified Quality Technician credential while applying strengthens your candidacy. Lateral moves from production associate, lab assistant, or supply chain coordinator roles within the same facility are a common way Californians transition into quality functions without starting over.
Where can I find and apply to quality specialist jobs in California?
You can find and apply to quality specialist jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to the ones that fit.
