R D Engineer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a r d engineer in Florida?
Most r d engineer roles in Florida require at least a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline such as electrical, mechanical, biomedical, or aerospace engineering. Florida does not mandate a specific state license solely for research and development work, though engineers who sign off on public-facing designs may need a Professional Engineer license issued through the Florida Board of Professional Engineers. Employers in defense commonly require eligibility for a federal security clearance as an additional condition of hire.
Which companies hire r d engineers in Florida?
Employers hiring r d engineers in Florida right now include KLS Martin, Socure, and Barfield, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's concentration of defense contractors, medical device manufacturers, and aerospace primes means hiring is consistent year-round rather than seasonal.
Which Florida cities have the most r d engineer jobs?
Jacksonville, Miami, and Miami Lakes have the most r d engineer openings in Florida. Orlando and the Space Coast drive demand through large aerospace and defense campuses, while Tampa attracts medical device and systems engineering work tied to its growing life sciences corridor and proximity to MacDill Air Force Base.
Are there remote r d engineer jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. R&D engineering is largely hands-on work tied to labs, test equipment, and physical prototypes, which limits remote options compared to purely analytical roles. About 0% of r d engineer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to cluster in software-heavy or computational research functions rather than hardware or manufacturing-adjacent positions.
How can I get hired as a r d engineer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a co-op or internship at one of Florida's large aerospace or defense employers, many of whom convert strong performers into full-time associate or junior engineer roles. Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris all run structured early-career programs at their Florida sites. A degree in engineering combined with a capstone project, relevant lab work, or a functional prototype portfolio makes candidates competitive. Adjacent roles such as test technician, engineering associate, or quality assurance engineer are common lateral entry points.
Where can I find and apply to r d engineer jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to r d engineer jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
